History comes alive for the Rogers County Historical Society meeting at the Belvidere Mansion on Monday, April 27, 2015, at 7:00pm. An Evening with Mary Bayless, presented by Christa Rice, portrays the early life of Claremore pioneer woman, Mary Melissa Stubblefield Bayless, the first resident of Claremore’s historic and iconic Belvidere Mansion.

Mrs. John Melville Bayless was born in Bell County, Texas, in the mid 1800s and moved with her family to Cassville, Missouri, after the Civil War. It was there that she met and married her entrepreneur husband and raised her family. Mr. J.M. Bayless traveled widely throughout Missouri and what was then, Indian Territory, buying, selling and developing real estate, while establishing local financial institutions. In 1907, Mr. and Mrs. Bayless made the commitment to sell their lovely home in Cassville (which still stands today) and move their family to Claremore. However, before they could finish building their dream home, Belvidere, tragedy struck. You won’t want to miss hearing the rest of Mrs. Bayless’ story.

The Rogers County Historical Society meetings are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. We invite you to come meet new friends and old, and enjoy this historical event. Address: 121 North Chickasaw Avenue, Claremore, OK. Phone: (918) 342 1127. See you at the Belvidere!
